What's more exciting than paddling down the Kennebec River? Doing it with new friends while diving into the rich local history along the way, of course.
Skowhegan Outdoors is excited to bring you the 2024 Kennebec River Ramble on Saturday, September 14th. Join Skowhegan Outdoors on a free guided river adventure where participants can enjoy a day on the water while learning about the past. present, and future significance of the Kennebec River and its surrounding land.
Guided by the Skowhegan Outdoors team, with special guest appearances along the way, the Ramble is an enjoyable family-friendly event offering an amazing way to spend time on the venerable Kennebec River.
The paddle is about 8 miles in length and will take approximately 4 hours. There will be several “history chat” stops along the way. This is an easy going run.
At the end of the paddle we will be holding a raffle for some amazing prizes from local Somerset County businesses!
Raffle prizes will include:
- A free campsite weekend at Yonderhill Jellystone Park
- A Loon 106 kayak from Old Town Canoe
- A 2-night stay at Two Rivers Campground
What is the Kennebec River Ramble?
The Ramble is a guided paddle along the Kennebec. The event is meant to showcase the rich local history as well as provide an opportunity for folks to enjoy the simple pleasure of paddling on the Kennebec River, right here in our backyard. All proceeds from the Kennebec River Ramble will be used to further the revitalization of Skowhegan and fund the construction of the future Skowhegan River Park. Donations like these help us to continue providing our community with free and accessible outdoor programming. Thank you for your support of Main Street Skowhegan and Skowhegan Outdoors!

The run from Historic Pines in Madison to the Oosoola Park can best be described as Class Fun! Little riffles here and there, flat water and is great for all ages and skill levels!

An optional Paddle Provisions Box is available to purchase. Boxes include a sandwich, chips, cookie and water, plus a raffle ticket! Proceeds from the boxes benefit Skowhegan Outdoors. Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch and snacks.

Are shuttles provided? Yes. Please opt in for the shuttle when you register online.
Are food and drink provided? Paddlers should bring extra water and snacks. You may also choose to take advantage of purchasing a Paddler Provisions box; it comes with a sandwich, water bottle and swag! Plus, proceeds from each purchase supports Skowhegan Outdoors operations.
How old do I have to be to participate? The Kennebec River Ramble is suitable for all ages. Please, participants age 13 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
