This August, join Skowhegan Outdoors for a series of unforgettable overnight adventures designed to introduce you to Maine’s incredible outdoor recreation opportunities. Each trip includes all gear, guides, and lodging—you just bring your own food and transportation.

These programs are open to ages 10 and up, and are perfect for beginners who want to try something new with the support of experienced guides. Youth under 18 attend for free, while adult participants pay just $50 per program.

All trips begin at Basecamp Gear Library at 9am on Day 1, where we’ll outfit you with everything you need before caravaning together to the destination. We will intend to be back in Skowhegan by 5pm of Day 2.

    Beginner/Intermediate Whitewater Kayaking

Ready to take your paddling skills to the next level? This 2-day, 1-night whitewater kayaking adventure is designed for paddlers who have some familiarity with whitewater boating—or for active, adventurous participants ready to jump into Class I–II rapids with proper instruction.

We’ll review foundational strokes and boat control on calm water before progressing to moving current and gentle rapids. You’ll learn river reading, ferrying, eddy turns, and basic safety and rescue techniques—all while building confidence in a supportive learning environment.

Who it’s for: Ages 10+ (Youth under 18 are free!) Must have either some whitewater boating experience OR be physically fit enough to paddle a full day on Class I–II water.
    Cost: $50 for adults
What’s included: Campsite, Kayak, paddle, helmet, PFD, dry bags, camping gear, experienced whitewater guides
What you bring: Food for the trip and personal clothing/layers. Personal camping gear, as preferred.
