  • Stack-a-thon at Parkman Hill Farm
    Saturday, March 29th
    1PM-3PM

This workday is hosted by Emma Hovencamp; it will take place in the barn at 380 Parkman Hill Farm in Solon. Volunteers will either split wood (using a gas wood splitter) or stack wood, and one volunteer may possibly help Emma cut logs to size for the wood splitter using a chainsaw. The purpose of this event is to support the Somerset Woods Share firebank initiative by building up the firewood reserve.

This volunteer event is best suited for adults or young adults, preferably those with experience working around a wood splitter. Volunteer capacity is limited to 4-5 people.

Somerset Woods Trustees will provide wood and materials needed for splitting and stacking the firewood. Participants will need to bring ear and eye protection, work gloves, close toed shoes, and wear long pants. Proper PPE (helmet, hearing and eye protection, gloves, and chaps) is expected of anyone operating a chainsaw. The barn may be chilly and March weather can be unpredictable, so participants should bring layers and perhaps a thermos with a warm drink! All participants should expect to sign a waiver upon arrival.

To participate, sign up for this free event through Skowhegan Outdoors or email Emma directly (americorps@somersetwoodstrustees.org). We ask that all participants RSVP.
