  • Have you wanted to try stand up paddling boarding, but weren’t sure how to start? Or maybe you’d like a few tips and pointers to have even more fun on the water. Stand Up Paddle Boarding Level 1 Clinic is for you!



    WHAT TO EXPECT?

    Skowhegan Outdoors is excited to announce that Mary McCann-Baker will lead Stand Up Paddle Boarding Level 1 instruction at the clinic. McCann-Baker lives locally in Somerset County and she is an American Canoe Association certified instructor in Kayaking, Stand up Paddle Board and Canoe. Mary has taught paddlesports for children and adults and is excited to share that in the community.



    The clinic is FREE to attend, but space is limited. Sign up today.



    Clinic participants will have the opportunity to see and/or experience (challenge by choice):

    -carrying boards on land

    -getting on and off boards safely from a dock and beach

    -moving the board from a variety of positions; sitting, kneeling , lying down, standing

    -turning around

    -falling off the board safely in deep water and getting back on

    -some of the many ways to have fun on a board such as seated spins, yoga



    Need gear? Submit your request online. We have Paddle Boards, Paddles and PFDs (personal flotation devices) you can borrow for FREE to use at the clinic.



    Participants should wear comfortable clothing they don’t mind getting wet, swim suits or quick dry shorts & tops are great! Remember to pack a towel, sunscreen, hat and/or sunglasses. And of course, a water bottle and light snack is recommended too.

    This is a free community activity coordinated by the Skowhegan Outdoors AmeriCorps Program, an initiative of nonprofit Main Street Skowhegan.
