    SKOWHEGAN OUTDOORS HIKING CAMP

Spend the week hiking locally and beyond, while learning what you need in your backpack, how to set and stick to a turnaround time, and how to hike safely and efficiently.

    CAMPERS SHOULD EXPECT:

    • To learn the 10 essentials of hiking.
    • To practice Leave No Trace principles.
    • To learn basic navigation skills, as well as what to do if you get turned around or lost.
    • To understand trail etiquette.
    • To become weather aware.
    • Exposure to the variety of trails offered right here in Maine.
    • Lunch is included, daily.
    • Transportation from Skowhegan Outdoors Basecamp to various trails is provided each day.

    EXPECTATIONS OF CAMPERS:

    • Open mind and positive attitude.
    • Be able to walk at least 3 miles continuously.
    • Start the day with a hearty breakfast, before arriving at camp. Lunch is provided, but campers will need to begin each day fueled up and hydrated.
    • Make sure you have proper footwear; hiking boots or sturdy shoes work great.  Sandals, flip flops and crocks are not permitted on hikes.
    • Sun screen, hat and/or sunglasses or SPF clothing are recommended.
    • Campers should also plan to bring a towel (just in case!).
    • Bring extra water, it gets hot fast!

We can’t wait to hit the trails with our 2024 campers!
